The Matinee, two-time “Roots Artist of the Year” winners at the BCCMA awards, have carved a reputation as one of Western Canada’s most electrifying live acts. Their breakout single, “Young & Lazy,” soared to number 1 in Canada, topping both the CBC and MuchMusic Video charts, and set the course for a career that now spans 15 years. Over five albums, the former Light Organ Records artists have collaborated with acclaimed producers like Grammy winner Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Tragically Hip), Jamie Candiloro (Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams), and Juno-nominee Steve Dawson. Known for their relentless touring (supporting the likes of Dallas Smith, Matt Mays, The Sheepdogs, & Randy Bachman) and unforgettable nation-wide festival appearances, they’ve logged countless miles—and also lost one tour van to flames (but that’s another story). Their recent full-length album ‘Change of Scene’, has garnered international radio play and features Grammy nominee Allison Russell. With comparisons to Nathaniel Rateliff, The Band, and Dawes, they continue to write their story, proving it’s showtime once again for The Matinee.
“With each release, this talented band keeps finding new depths.”
– Vancouver Sun
“Produced by Steve Dawson (Birds of Chicago), the album is vibrant and
warm, full of engaging melody and classic country-rock songwriting.”
– Americana UK
“The Matinee’s folk-roots spin is so cozy and homey you can feel the
golden glow of the fireplace flickering…. It’s forlorn without being
mournful, intimate and sad yet still warm and hopeful.”
-CBCMusic.ca
“Laid-back insights gleaned are evident on the easy Southern soul of
Bad Addiction or The Road To Hell’s Tom Petty-like top-down
Americana.”
-MOJO Magazine
“They’re just really, really good”
– John Kennedy – Radio X London
